Recent school mural project – Gabrielino High School

Big City was recently given the task of designing and hand painting school murals at four locations around the campus of Gabrielino High School in San Gabriel, near Los Angeles, in Southern California.

Here is how it went:

First, along with the paper patterns, I usually produce scale printouts at a fairly large size — it’s so much easier to know where things are supposed to go when you’re close to the wall. Sometimes it’s even dangerous to try to step back to see if it looks right!

Then, on to the school. First was this track shed. Here are a couple of progress shots:

Next, the stadium press booth. This was to get painted graphics, then dimensional brushed silver letters installed over the painted portion. The idea was to make a big impression for the school. Here are a couple of progress shots:

The next portion was indoors – fortunately, in 110˚ heat. The wrestling gym on the campus got a mural to commemorate the wrestling program at the school. A couple of progress shots – first, I used computer cut paint mask to cut the time painting the detail in the school logo/shield:

Day 1 completed – it was so hot that power went out to the gym and I had to call it a day:

Finally, out on the baseball / softball / soccer fields, an equipment shed that faces the entry of the school. A perfect place for a school pride graphic! Here are a couple of progress shots:

Needless to say, everybody loves their newly dressed-up school buildings!

Recent work – gym graphics – Corona del Mar High School

Inside the gym of Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach (in Orange County CA) – alma mater school mural graphics, along with the school mascot, the Sea King. Underneath the main graphics is a listing of donors – every member of the 2016 senior class.

This is digitally printed and computer cut vinyl, which can work well on interior wall applications like this. Thanks to Corona del Mar High School for the opportunity to help.

Recent work – Danza del Sol Winery

Got to spend a pleasant afternoon working on this wall graphic yesterday. Danza del Sol Winery, in Temecula wine country (near San Diego CA) built a new barrel room and event facility. Big City was asked to paint themed graphics on the subtly faux aged finish background, here is the result:

Recent work – four Gold Ribbon School awards in one day!

Four schools in the Savanna school district in Orange County CA received the Gold Ribbon award this month, and called on Big City to create and install these 6 ft. round logo graphics. The panel material is lightweight dibond aluminum composite, the facing is digitally printed with graffiti-resistant laminate.

We installed them all in one day, and here are the results.
